22-year old Rasindu lives in Arambahena, Tibbatuwawa, a remote village located in the Akuressa DS division in Matara district. His father is a carpenter and mother, a housewife. Rasindu is the eldest in the family and his 2 younger sisters are attending school. The family of five live in a small house. In September 2014, Rasindu visited the Matara office requesting that he be facilitated to follow a Vocational Training course on Hotel management at the Hotel School run by the Lighthouse Hotel in Galle. This is a one-year course divided into two segments (6 months vocational training and 6 months on the job training) and run by the hotel which falls under the Jetwing Group. After brief discussions on eligibility, Rasindu was enrolled into the 2015 batch and commenced his training. BEC Matara provided Rs. 15,000.00 to meet a part of his course fees. Rasindu was granted a placement in the Lighthouse Hotel Galle for his on the job training. Upon completion of 6 months, he was offered a job at the same hotel as a Steward. Rasindu earns a basic monthly salary of Rs. 28,000.00 with additional allowances and benefits. Rasindu is thankful to BEC for the opportunity he received and is very satisfied with his job. He also plans to follow an Advanced Hotel Management Course and has an ambition of becoming a Hotel Manager.
